Important information for City of Longview Residents:
On Thursday, Nov. 14, City of Longview City Council members voted to amend three ordinances within Chapter 13 of City of Longview ordinances related to animals.
Section 13-16. Vaccinations: the first change impacted the current rabies ordinance by removing the required annual vaccination and replacing it with language to allow licensed veterinarians to follow Texas law. This change allows an animal to be revaccinated once every three years with a triennial vaccine or once each year with an annual vaccine.
Section 13-40. Microchip Required: the second amendment is to add a required microchipping ordinance of all cats and dogs over the age of four months within Longview city limits. Failure to microchip an animal is punishable with a fine of up to $500.
Section 13-41: Sterilization Required: Intact Pet Permit: the third change adds a required sterilization ordinance of all cats and dogs over the age of six months within Longview city limits, with exceptions, as needed. Exceptions include, but are not limited to, veterinary exemptions, an Intact Pet Permit, and/or a Breeding Permit. Intact Pet and Breeding Permits can only be obtained in person at Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center during business hours- 12-5 PM Tuesday thru Saturday.
