Volunteer

How Can You Volunteer?

While Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center has 28 staff members who are dedicated to the overall care and wellbeing of the animals in the facility, we are always encouraging members of our community to join our volunteer program.

Volunteers are the biggest help when it comes to providing enrichment for our animals at LACAC. Enrichment is the process of providing animals with some form of stimulation in order to encourage natural behaviors that help to improve or maintain their physical and mental health. This ensures keeping the cats and dogs happy and healthy for adoption!

This time spent with the animals helps with their adoptability and eases the transition into a new home. Volunteers play a crucial role in the success of LACAC's mission.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Must be at least 13 years of age. Anyone 13–15 MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. 16 and over may volunteer independently.
  • Complete our 1-hour in-person volunteer orientation. These orientations are held once a month at the shelter and will be posted on our volunteer website the month before.
  • All prospects must also complete in-person training with one of our volunteer team leaders. This training can be scheduled after you have completed the orientation.
  • All volunteers must wear clothing appropriate for physical activity. There will be no shorts above the knee and no open toe shoes.
